Donuts? No thank you. Who likes donuts anyway? (haha)
Today I was in a two hour meeting in which I had to stare at these sweet and chewy tortuous circles of love:
Being that I do not have Celiac Disease, (that I know of, I’ve never been tested) it’s difficult for me sometimes to turn down foods that I love. You see, I am gluten-free because it reduces the impact of my allergies – sneezing, sniffling, red itchy eyes, and the like – as well as helps keep my energy levels and immune system at a more even state. For instance, before I went gluten-free, I would get constant earaches. That doesn’t happen anymore. Now whenever I drink beer or eat bread, my nose gets stuffed up for days, and it’s no fun and I’m miserable. This report on how gluten stimulates immune response in people without celiac disease, explains this better if you’re interested.
So, in order to muster up some self-control and sit through this meeting with multiple people asking me “Would you like a donut?” I have to think about how miserable I’ll be afterwards. I also thought a lot about the gluten-free chocolate chip cookies I had waiting for me at home. Also, I may go to Soergel’s (a local farm market with a gluten free grocery store) later today and pick up some gluten free donuts. YUM.
What do you do to stave off temptation?
