Ooops….Beef Barley Soup is not Gluten Free!
Talking to my mother last night on the phone, I got a hankering for some beef stew, which she had made for dinner. Since my mother lives a two hours drive away, there’s no way I could make it to her house in time for stew. So, instead I decided to stop at Trader Joe’s to see if I couldn’t find the next best thing. And I did! Or I thought I did.
I ended up buying beef barley soup, which I thought would go perfect with the salad I was planning on making. And it did. Of course, it didn’t dawn on me that BARLEY HAS GLUTEN IN IT until I was already half-way through my bowl. Damn.
It’s so difficult sometimes to remember what has gluten and what does not. And I wonder sometimes if my brain doesn’t sometimes trick me into thinking something is gluten free, just so I can eat it. :-0
